Netflixs Clickbait Ending: Was Nick Guilty?.
22 April, 2023

NetflixWhen I recently got back from a trip out of town, my wife was excited. I’d only memed about the title online before, and didn’t actually know much about it other than it was a new Netflix limited series-unless-people-like-it-then-maybe-not-so-limited, the kind you see released all the time. And it stars the guy from Entourage, who apparently doesn’t age. No one knows for sure who killed Nick on Clickbait, but there are a few popular theories.

Who kidnapped Nick Brewer?

Unfortunately, Dawn’s actions had dire consequences, leading to three individuals getting killed. Holding up signs that revealed his fate, the kidnappers promised that if the video of Nick hit five million views he would die, which prompted a panicked search for the missing PT in time. But despite the threat, people continued to watch the video and pushed the views past the goal. The mystery surrounding Nick Brewer’s murder was finally put to bed in the eighth episode of Netflix’s limited series Clickbait. And if you were surprised by what was ultimately revealed, you’re in good company with star Adrian Grenier. In the final chapter of the seven-part series, the administrative assistant Dawn Gleed ends up using Nick Brewer’s photo for her new dating profile.

Nick Brewer had never met Sarah Burton (whose online dating profile was under the name ‘Maggie Oxley’ for reasons undisclosed). ‘Maggie’ had never met ‘Jeremy’ in real life, and was being catfished by Dawn Gleed, the receptionist at Nick’s place of work. It was Dawn posing as Nick/Jeremy who irritably rejected Sarah because she was smitten with new cat fishing victim Emma, and told Sarah to make good on her suicide threat. Netflix’s Clickbait explores the disappearance of a loving father and adoring husband, Nick Brewer.

However, while pleading for his life, Nick successfully managed to convince Simon that someone had stolen his identity to catfish Sarah. Following the story of Nick Brewer , the physical therapist randomly gets kidnapped one morning and viral videos of a bloodied Brewer begin to make their way online. At the ending of the series, we see a man called Simon and his friend Daryl as Nick’s kidnapper. When Simon found out that Nick was not the one actually texting his sister, he lets Nick escape.

However, as with most mysteries, the solutions lying at the heart of “Clickbait” are not exactly easy. No, Nick is off the hook for allegedly orchestrating the heinous crime of encouraging Sarah to take her own life. We then see Dawn picking up the conversation with Mandy, using the password Nick told her prior, proceeding to spawn multiple fake accounts using his photo. Ben is proud of his achievements, as we soon find out, and as the final transcript is read and the camera skips across to our different characters, it stops on Simon, as he watches the news grimly. Ed and Dawn pack up their things and take Kai out on a road-trip. When his phone is thrown out the window, he immediately realizes something is up. Dawn and Ed eventually drive up to a caravan, where the boy is encouraged to get out the car, with a gun pointed to his head. Ed does eventually find out what his wife has been up to and is understandably crushed.

After receiving more messages from AL_2005, Ethan goes to see her. Alison/AL_2005, who has social anxiety and is not good at IRL , tells Ethan that he might have more luck speaking to Emma than Pia, as he’s Nick’s son. The attempt works, and after Emma doesn’t recognize Nick’s voice, she finally admits that she never met Nick. Arriving at Balfour, Ethan speaks to AL_2005, most likely the same person he texted in bed at the end of episode 6.

Here’s the catch — whoever Sarah was communicating with, it wasn’t the real Nick. As seen in flashbacks, Nick is able to convince Simon that he wasn’t involved with Sarah at all, and Simon eventually lets him run away into the night…to his inevitable death. In the final moments of the series, Ed releases Kai and attempts to shoot at the cops before being taken out himself, leaving Dawn without a husband and a considerable amount of regret.

Before he escaped, Nick had realised who the catfish must be – as he revealed that he only told one person about his wife’s affair. Through the whole murder investigation, even the police have zero maturedating com suspicions of the couple. The only reason anything comes out is because of Nick’s family. Pia and Nick’s son Ethan try to get the police to realise that none of the women ever saw Nick’s face.

He clearly wanted to throw out an insult that would stick with Jackie like hers did to him, but since we didn’t actuallyseeJackie’s comment in the first place, this one hurts. I don’t know if they can come back from this, and frankly, I don’t know if they should. This whole thing is unstable and ready to explode, like one of Paul’s scientific reactions.

Nick Brewer’s username on D8R was Nick Chatbot, but this wasn’t something shown when Dawn entered his messages with Mandy while in the office. When Dawn logged on, we copped a better look at Nick’s full profile, which included a section that suggested he was there to make friends. Under what Nick was looking for, he wrote “Fun, Friendship”, but if this profile was just an innocent place for Nick to find friends, then why would he sign up under Nick Chabot, a fake name. That’s not really enough of a reason to kill Nick, and then go on to kidnap his child, Kai. In contrast, someone like Nick’s coworker, Matt, would have much more of a motive, due to the revenge porn allegations that could endanger his coaching career.
